A Note From Heather…
Since a young age, I have been in awe of the human body. I was able to train my body to perform a high level of gymnastics and could isolate specific muscle groups to achieve specific shapes, use simple arm motions to induce the laws of physics and spiral or somersault my way across a floor. Over time, however, my physical body rejected the intensity & extreme conditioning and began to develop a lot of pain. Through that pain I came to know the medical system in its attempts to heal an over-trained body. Through that pain, I came to know massage therapy.
Now I do not see the body as just a physical form adhering to the laws of nature. Beyond the tangible body lies our energetic body, which is really the essence of all matter, as well as the mental, emotional & spiritual bodies. It is virtually impossible to separate one from the other when interacting with anyone, especially when doing manual therapies. This is how I came to the term ‘Holistic Manual Therapy & Energy Medicine’ to describe what I do: Holistic, in its approach of all of our ‘bodies’ and medicine, in its affect on our internal healing abilities. |

Any trauma experienced in our lifetime affects us on one, several or all of our bodies and therefore to heal, we must be inclusive in our approach to treatment. Combining the trainings of Fascial Release therapy, Craniosacral therapy, Visceral Manipulation & Energy treatment has become my way of accessing as much of the ‘body’ as possible within my scope of practice as a Registered Massage Therapist. I see not only with my eyes but with my hands and my mind’s eye, always striving to be present in a conversation with The Body.
Teaching has become an integral part of my practice in that by teaching others I learn more. I have found it to be an extremely rewarding challenge that I hope to do more of as time goes on. Working with both pre-graduate students and post-graduate colleagues has allowed me to be a better therapist. I hope that I will be able to practice & learn more for many years to come & if our paths cross, I look forward to the conversation.
